This St Thomas Eco Tour provides you with the opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the Island. Learn about the mangroves, wildlife and the marine environment while paddling effortlessly on your kayak in this calm protected lagoon of Cas Cay.  Cas Cay is a pristine mangrove and lagoon system which provides shelter to an abundance of marine life, iguanas, herons, egrets, and pelicans. The only way to explore this unique eco system is by Kayak, and this tour gets you out and away from the hustle and bustle and into this tranquil and peaceful sanctuary for kayaking, snorkeling, and hiking.

Upon your arrival to the Eco Adventure Centre you will be greeted by your friendly and expert guides for the day. All guides are extremely knowledgeable about the mangrove and marine ecosystem providing entertaining insight on this fun environmental adventure.

Your lead guide will give you a detailed briefing on the unique eco system you are about to enter, and his amusing but highly informative talk will be an eye opener for even the most seasoned eco adventurers!

Then its off to the dock to get kitted out with lifejackets and snorkel gear, and board your 2 person ocean Kayak, for the 1st leg of the trip. As you leave this area, the peace and quiet of the mangroves settles over you, as you gently paddle through increasingly clear shallow tropical waters, past exotic birds and out in to the Cas Cay Marine Sanctuary, leaving the noise and crowds of the main island behind.

You will make a stop in the mangroves while your guide gives you an insight into what part this eco system plays in our oceans and reefs, and will point out animals, aquatic life and creatures of interest. Then, its off out to the fringing coral reef area, where you will pull your kayak up onto a deserted shell beach for the next part of your adventure.

For the highlight of the tour, you will don your mask and snorkel and join your guide for a guided snorkel into the shallow and clear mangrove pools and out to the fringing coral reef. Here you will see all kinds of juvenile tropical fish, taking shelter in the mangrove roots, which is essentially a fish “nursery”, as well as lobster, and rays. The area boasts French Angel Fish, Starfish, Octopus, Eagle Rays and Snapper. Again your guide will narrate the sea life you come across, and find the best “hotspots” for the beautiful varied species of reef fish you will find here.

During the tour we will disembark the kayaks in the pristine waters that encompass the mangrove environment giving you the opportunity to enjoy a refreshment break in these calm, shallow waters.

Finally its back onboard the Kayaks for the return journey to the Eco Base, again winding through the enchanting mangrove islands and shallow clear waters, before concluding the trip back at the Kayak dock.

A great family option that throws in some “fun education” for adults and kids alike, this is something really different to do on St. Thomas that gets you away from the well trodden tourist route

Optional Hiking Exploration

A great addition to this Eco Tour is the hiking option. If you choose this option your tour will encompass three activities: kayaking, hiking and then snorkeling. This is more of a nature walk then a hike, and your guide will take you through the interior of the Cas Cay mangrove forest on an easy trail, past tidal pools, which eventually leads to Red Point cliffs with breathtaking views over the surf below. You will also visit a rare geological “blow hole”, which your guide will narrate. At this magical location, well away from any human development, you will learn more about this enchanted eco system.
